Teacher Kits
July – August 2024
Teacher Kits is an initiative that began in 2020, thanks to a sponsorship from SRI. Their generosity provided classroom teachers at Andersen Elementary School with essential supplies used daily. Over the years, Teacher Kits have grown to support teachers at Afton-Lakeland Elementary and Lake Elmo Elementary through sponsorship dollars from Afton-Bayport-Lakeland Lions, Henseler & Kocian Orthodontics, and local individuals.
According to USA Today (2023), a staggering 90 percent of teachers spend their own money on classroom supplies, tools, and materials that are not covered by their salary or a district budget. In fact, the National Education Association estimated that teachers spend nearly $800 of their own money to support their students throughout the year.
