Education Support

Teacher Kits & Stuff the Bus

Community Thread is dedicated to supporting local students and teachers in our community. In preparation for the 2024-2025 school year, there will be two opportunities to support local education.

First, support local teachers through Teacher Kits. Teacher Kits are designed specifically to ease the financial burden that many teachers experience when preparing their classroom for a year of learning and growing with their students.

For Teacher Kit information, please scroll down or contact Community Thread at 651-439-7434.

Second, Community Thread is continuing to partner with United Way of Washington County-East (UWWCE) on Stuff the Bus to support local families prepare their students for a successful year at school with essential school supplies.

For Stuff the Bus donation, sponsor, or recipient questions, please call UWWCE directly at (651) 439-3838 ext. 2.

Scroll down for more information about both initiatives, how to get involved as volunteer, donation requests, and sponsorship opportunities.

Teacher Kits

July – August 2024

Teacher Kits is an initiative that began in 2020, thanks to a sponsorship from SRI. Their generosity provided classroom teachers at Andersen Elementary School with essential supplies used daily. Over the years, Teacher Kits have grown to support teachers at Afton-Lakeland Elementary and Lake Elmo Elementary through sponsorship dollars from Afton-Bayport-Lakeland Lions, Henseler & Kocian Orthodontics, and local individuals.

According to USA Today (2023), a staggering 90 percent of teachers spend their own money on classroom supplies, tools, and materials that are not covered by their salary or a district budget. In fact, the National Education Association estimated that teachers spend nearly $800 of their own money to support their students throughout the year.
