Job Title:             Volunteer Recruitment Intern
Purpose:             To support the organization’s volunteer recruitment efforts
Reports to:          Volunteer Center Director
Classification:    Internship $1,000 stipend; Part-time (10 hours per week)

Our vision is a community where all people are engaged, enriched and connected.  Community Thread leverages resources and volunteers to improve the quality of life for adults and their families in our local community.  Since 1967 Community Thread has been serving the greater Stillwater community.  We are a leader in promoting volunteerism.  The Volunteer Center provides direct service to older adults, serves low-income families and assists other local nonprofits with volunteer needs.  Last year 1,471 families, individuals, employees and youth gave 12,028 volunteer hours to strengthen our community.

Position Overview:

The Volunteer Recruitment Intern will support Community Thread’s Volunteer Center with outreach, recruitment and retention of volunteers.  Volunteer are vital to Community Thread and the Volunteer Recruitment Intern will help ensure all volunteer needs are met.  This role will play an important part in building and expanding our work with volunteers, the needs of the organization, the nonprofit organizations we support and our community.


  • Compile information about community, business, youth and other groups for potential outreach
  • Research volunteer recruitment events through the St. Croix Valley and surrounding areas
  • Lead outreach to local organizations (businesses, community groups, faith-based organizations, etc.) concerning their community involvement and volunteerism
  • Recruit individuals and groups to volunteer with Community Thread and our nonprofit partners
  • Research corporate volunteer project ideas that meet the needs of the community
  • Based on historical data, create lists of volunteers to contact about the new Thrive at Community Thread program
  • Update volunteer management database with feedback and information
  • Other event planning and communications responsibilities as needed


  • Working towards a degree in related field preferred
  • Previous volunteer experience preferred
  • An interest in nonprofits and volunteer coordination/management
  • Strong organizational ability and planning skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable making phone calls
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office programs
  • Experience working with volunteers a plus
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with good judgment
  • High degree of reliability and punctuality
  • Willingness to ask questions and receive feedback

Time Commitment:

  • 5-10 hours/week; 10 week minimum commitment
  • Flexible hours between 9 am-4 pm; Monday-Friday
