AARP Tax Assistance
Free Tax Filing Support
Since 1973, Community Thread has proudly partnered with the AARP Tax-Aide Foundation to provide free income tax filing for low- to moderate-income taxpayers. This long-standing service reflects our commitment to supporting neighbors with trusted, accessible financial assistance.

Expert Help from Certified Volunteers
Our tax preparation is provided by trained and IRS-certified AARP Tax-Aide volunteers. These volunteers prepare both federal and Minnesota state income tax returns with care and accuracy.
Please note: We can assist Minnesota residents only, and only if they are not required to file a state tax return in any other state.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Volunteer Tax Greeters
Be a friendly, welcoming presence during Tax Season. As a Volunteer Tax Greeter, you’ll greet visitors with a smile, help direct them through the building, and support staff during our busiest time. Your help keeps the Tax Program running smoothly and creates a positive experience for everyone. More information coming soon.

2026 Tax-Aide Appointments
2026 Tax-Aide appointments have not opened, yet. This year, to improve convenience and accessibility, appointments can be reserved online. Appointment link will be live on January 12, 2026 at 9AM. Please return to this webpage at that time.
State Tax Returns
State filing and payment deadlines vary and are not always the same as the federal filing deadline. Some states automatically accept a federal Form 4868 extension, other states have extended their tax filing dates – taxpayers should check their state tax agency for more information.
No tax records are stored at Community Thread at any time during or after the tax filing period has ended.
